Safety & Standards

At AE UNLTD, we believe that Jiu-Jitsu is the ultimate tool for empowerment. However, for that empowerment to take root, the environment must be secure, clean, transparent, and built on trust.

Our mission, led by Armando and Joe, is to preserve the integrity of the art by ensuring a safe space for every single person who steps onto our mats—men, women, and children alike. We take a proactive, multi-layered approach to safety that extends beyond physical training and into the very culture of our academy.

On the Mats: Training Smart

Safety begins with how we practice. Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport, but it should never be a dangerous one.

  • Controlled Environment: We emphasize technique over brute force. Our curriculum is designed to teach students how to train sustainably, ensuring longevity in the sport.
  • Supervision: All sparring and live drilling are actively monitored by experienced instructors to prevent unsafe situations before they happen.

Facility Hygiene & Health Standards

We are proud to maintain a level of cleanliness that goes far beyond the industry norm. A clean academy is a safe academy, and we work hard to minimize the risk of skin infections or illness.

  • Daily Mat Sterilization: Every single day, prior to the start of the first afternoon class, our mats are thoroughly cleaned using approved hospital-grade disinfectants. This schedule is intentional—it ensures that our youth students are stepping onto a pristine surface, protecting our minors from “grown-up germs” or anything lingering from previous adult sessions.
  • Weekly Deep Cleaning: In addition to daily maintenance, we conduct a comprehensive deep clean of all hard surfaces within the academy on a weekly basis.
  • A Higher Standard: We know this level of rigorous sanitation is not typical of many martial arts academies, but we are proud to go the extra mile to ensure the surfaces we touch daily are safe for everyone.

Our Commitment to Child Safety & Coaching Standards

We take our responsibility to the next generation of grapplers incredibly seriously. Parents can trust that our team is vetted and trained to the highest standards.

  • Background Checks: Every coach working with students has undergone a rigorous background check.
  • SafeSport Certified: Our instructors have completed IBJJF SafeSport training, the gold standard for recognizing and preventing abuse in sports.
  • Specialized Training: Beyond standard certifications, we provide internal training on the specific “do’s and don’ts” of working with minors to ensure professional boundaries are always maintained.
  • Emergency Preparedness: We ensure that key team leads and staff members are certified in AED, CPR, and First Aid.

Transparency & Technology

We believe sunlight is the best disinfectant. To protect both our students and our staff, we utilize technology to maintain accountability.

  • Video Surveillance: We maintain video cameras in all public areas of the academy.
  • Secure Archives: Footage is backed up regularly to ensure a record of activity is always available if needed.

Your Voice Matters: Reporting & Feedback

Unfortunately, in the wider world of martial arts, positions of power are sometimes abused. This degrades the purpose of Jiu-Jitsu. We are taking a stand against that by opening multiple channels for communication.

If you ever have a concern regarding a member, coach, or guest at our academy,
please immediately approach Professor Armando, Coach Joe, or Professor Elena.

We have also introduced two new tools to make sure you are heard:

  1. Anonymous Reporting Form: We have launched a secure online form where anyone can submit feedback or report incidents privately. This is available for those who may not feel comfortable conveying concerns publicly.
  2. Monthly Feedback Surveys: To help us refine our experience and facilities, we will be releasing a new monthly survey to all members.
We hope you’ll use these channels to help us improve and make everyone feel welcomed as we share the love and knowledge of this great sport.
